OT-BIO Jim Giles

Hello All,

I subscribed to the list about two weeks ago and did not check my mail for
about 4 days and have been reading ever since. <This is a very active group>
Glad to see so much interest in my favorite flower.

I live in Moreno Valley, Ca where the night time temperatures get all the way
into the low 40's (sorry all you folks in the north). Today is Sunny and in
the 70's and my iris love it. I live about 3 miles from Cal-Dixie Iris Garden
owned by Herb and Sara Holk. They have become my mentors in the iris things I
do. My daugter was married in their garden last April and it was a beautiful
place for such an event.

I am currently the editor for the Region 15 Newsletter, a position I have had
for the last going on 5 years. I am also the 1st VP for the Inland Region
Iris Society (IRIS). No I am not confused (Steve Rocha) we just changed the
name from Inland Iris Society to IRIS at our last meeting.

I got into the iris world in 1993 when IRIS had a rhizome sale here in Moreno
Valley, Ollie Rust was the sales person (some of you may know her, she goes to
a lot of the National Conventions) and she sold me $140 dollars worth of
rhizomes and talked me into joining the society. When the iris bloomed the
next season I was hooked. My favorite iris is whatever is in bloom. There is
no way I could choose a favorite rainbow flower.

I am a life member of AIS. A member of the Reblooming Society, TB Society and
am becoming very interested in Historical Iris so guess I will become a member
of HIPS.

I was appointed a Garden Judge this January and will be judging my first 3
shows this year, including yours at San Diego Steve.

I have been to every Region 15 Sping Trek since 1994 and have only missed on
fall trek since then. I have yet to make a national meeting because my 40
hour a week job gets in the way of talking that much time off. I noticed that
some of you have been talking about Barry Blyth. He will be the guest speaker
for the Region 15 Spring Trek and Mini Spuria convention in Phoenix on April
17, 18 and 19 this year. Meolody Wilhoit will do a judges training session
on Louisianas and Dave Niswonger will be doing a session on Spurias. I am
definitly looking forward to this trek.

I am always looking for Iris related clip art to use in the publications and
newsletters I do so you have any you would be willing to share please keep me
in mind. It seems that the Iris, as popular as it is with us, it not as
popular as roses with the clip art artisits.

I know many of the names of folks on this list through your reputations and I
hope to get to actually meet you in the years to come.

Thanks for letting me introduce myself and look forward to the knowledge
shared on this list.
