I hope I'm not being thin-skinned about this. I thought the matter was
stone dead.
I believe my original question, precipitated by the borer disclaimer in
the catalog,
was whether there was a treatment that could be used on the receiving
end of an
order to assure that we remain far removed from borer territory. I
thought it was
an innocent and appropriate question as it would probably only take a
couple of
borer eggs in some dead foilage on a rhizome to make this temperate part
of Alaska
part of borer territory.
No one has answered the question, but I have sure heard what fine people
run the
Joe Pye Weed Garden. I did read on another list that a bath in a 10%
solution of ammonia
would kill most pests and their eggs. Any comments????
