I don't know about soaking in ammonia...that probably would kill a lot of
things ...wouldn't be real good on you if you were in a closed-up
building. We soak everything in 15% bleach water...even if its our
rhizomes, just moving to another area in our garden. An old time iris
grower told us to soak in the bleach water before replanting and who are we
to argue with success? We have never had a borer. Sometimes we get an
occasional aphid in an order but he gives up the ghost in the bleach water.
The solution we have left, we pour on the ground around other established
