Book-Magic of Iris

After many publishing delays, Barbara Perry Lawton's book will be availab=
le
this month. There will be an ad in the next AIS bulletin and, I
understand, Barbara is donating some of the price to the AIS Youth Fund.
AIS Region 18 experienced Iris folk, Jim and Jean Morris and Riley Probst=
,
helped with the pictures - many hours of slide viewing. I have not yet
seen it but we are very excited about it's arrival. Barbara is an
experienced garden writer and has published other books. Region 18 Sprin=
g
Tour attendees in Joplin will be able to purchase the book there also. S=
he
is new Region 18 bulletin editor and a good supporter of AIS locally.

After two weeks of 50-65 temps, yesterday turned our yard into daffodil
popsicles. The forsythia and ?magnolia are probably "toast". Lows 15 wi=
th
-12 windchill - rain first, then very little snow. Yuck! No wonder Paul=

Black is moving his hybridizing efforts from OK to OR. Not a clue how mu=
ch
permanent damage will be to roses who were growing new leaves and Sibs wi=
th
green growth coming out of the mulch. Iris were showing growth but we'll=

see if any damage. Last year - snow 4-12-97 of 4 inches blew the magnoli=
as
and did affect some early bearded (Edith Wolford and Champagne seem to ge=
t
low and twisted but others Vanity, Song of Norway breeze right thru) and
bloom was a week late but very nice. Ah, the joys of gardening.
