10o F this morning, forecast to be colder tonight. I covered a few
things, experimented with piling creek sand on top of a rhizome or two
and setting water bottles around them, but left most to fend for
themselves. Not enough Reemay to cover everything. My late bloomers in
the rot infested 'display' bed bed will probably do fine, as always, but
the others will be another 'experiment'.
Though the cold won't kill plants outright, it does injure lush foliage,
especially the terminal (blooming) fan, which sets things up for rot in
the mother rhizome. I don't have problems with that rot spreading to
increases, and don't doctor for rot, but those of you who do should be
prepared when warm weather and 'rot' season arrives.
