Hi John:
It depends..... Judges, for example, are not permitted to accept any
honorarium since teaching is part of their mission. But in reality, when
someone spends the amount of time necessary to put on a good program, and
travels any distance at all in order to do it, it seems like we should be able
to find a way to thank them properly.
We generally give the speaker a gift.... sometimes a basket filled with local
specialties... sometimes a framed print... sometimes something else. Also,
if the speaker is a hybridizer, it's a nice gesture (IMHO) to make a club
purchase from him/her.
