Richard,
Spraying water on plants acts as an insulation when the water freeze's on the
plants. It protects the plants from the cold air and dryness. The ice on the
plants helps reduce the loss of the plants moisture. Some of the Orange
groves here in Calif. have automatic misting systems that turn on if the air
temps get to a set temperature.
Speaking of Calif., the temp is expected to get to 86 (F) today, but with the
wind chill it will probably only feel like 84. <G> Sorry just couldn't resist.
Front page of our local paper showed a picture of what everyone east of the
rockies seems to be dealing with. Not a pretty sight. I like being able to
look up at our mountains and see the snow but that is as close as I want to
get. I spent 7 years in Montana while I was in the Air Force, loved it there
but I DO NOT miss the cold and snow.
After work yesterday I went home and played in my iris beds instead of going
to the Fitness Center. It was just too nice out and I have this bad
infestation of weeds after our unusually rainy Feburary. I have a clump of
Skating Party with 7 stalks, one of which will have bloomed by the time I get
home tonight. Quasar and Camelot Rose have nice stalks coming. LA's are
increasing like I have never seen before, must be the rain and spuria's are
doing very well, should a good bloom year.
Hang in there, the snow and cold won't last forever, it just seems like it
some times.
