AIS: East Tennessee Iris Society news

We managed to miss the presses of the current issue of the Irisarian in
getting details of our show, sale, and where we are in planning the Fall
Region 7 meeting in Knoxville, TN, so I decided to go ahead and post
them here.

Spring show and sale - at Plant Sciences Building, University of
Tennessee Agricultural campus, May 9, judging starts at 10:30, we
estimate doors open to public at 1:00, judges Hugh and Mary Thurmond,
Bill Ginter, and Julie Allen. We usually have 200 or more stalks. The
sale will be in conjunction with the Friends of the Garden (University
of Tennessee trial (AAS?) and display gardens) in the 'patio' and foyer
of the Plant Sciences Building which starts at 10.

The Fall Regional will meet at the Best Western on Merchant's Road on
I-75 on the north side of Knoxville (for you Kentuckians) on Aug 28-29
(early date chosen to avoid University of Tennessee home football game
traffic and motel mess). Rooms will be $64/night for up to 4 people
with rates good for a week's stay. We are trying to keep banquet costs
between $10 & $15/person with variety (buffet) for those with special
dietary needs (vegetarian, low fat, low sodium, etc). We haven't
planned any tours so far, but local tours are available for Smoky Mts
Natnl park, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge shopping, etc. Mary Thurmond will
get our guest speaker, so we don't know who that will be yet, though
I've heard rumors. Hope they are true.
