While I haven't seen the Wayside catalog yet and therefore can't attest to the
matchup of picture with names , the names are accurate. Butter and Sugar is a
yellow /white siberian introduced by Currier McEwen and Steve is of the
blue/redpurple blend family I believe. It was named after Steve Varner, I
believe, but I don't recall the hybridizer. Like you I have found irises
pictured in catalogs that were of doubtful validity. I noted in Schreiner's
catalog which I received yesterday that they have listed Wabash as "NEW". I
know that they mean new to their catalog but I wonder how many are of the
mistaken notion that it is a new introduction and do not take the time to
actually read the plant description where it is clarified. People visiting my
garden have remarked about the "new " irises they see advertised by Michigan
Bulb and others so I know that some people are fooled.
