....another 'newbie' surfacing...to computing as well as irises. I have
to admit that roses are my first love - my garden is home to about 150 bushes
interplanted with perennials. I have admired irises from afar for several
years but had only one last summer (unnamed - a friend's old grandfather's
plant's offspring). In the fall I saw a great deal on tall/bearded bulbs and
bought about 40. Before I had a chance to get them into my garden we had an
unlikely change in the weather and I was afraid to put their little feet into
the ground for fear they wouldn't make roots enough to get through a frigid
upstate New York winter. So I 'planted' them in peat moss in the veggie
drawer in my refrigerator...they are still looking like iris bulbs...my garden
is till frozen...I think I should be doing something with them about now but
I'm not sure what...???can I start them in a cool room (55 degrees) in pots on
a windowsill?? Your expertise will be appreciated...this is your opportunity
to convert me to iris-ism - which I don't think will be too much work as
"Iris" conjures up a very vivd memory from 20 years ago of an old man's iris
garden in Lake George, NY - a bazillion of these beauties - some as tall as I
am (which is not really enormous as I am 4'11", but IMPRESSIVE - his entire
'backyard' - just gorgeous!!!! .......so I thought if I started with
40......with a little help.....
so I anxiously await your
advice..........................................Elizabeth..........
