This pattern in iris is called the "Broken color" pattern. It was
developed originally by Ensminger about two decades ago and other
hybridizers have picked up where he left off, especially Brad Kasparek
of Zebra Gardens in Utah.

Yes, this was one of the first of Ensmingers and was runner up for the
Dykes Medal a few years ago.

This pattern believe it or not originated from mutating plicatas.

Bulletin.
We are introducing two "broken color" iris for Brad & Kathie Kasperek
this year , because of their move. We are also introducing a variegated
foliage plant of theirs with near "Black" flowers called ZEBRA NIGHT.
