Pineappling is when the rhizome enlarges to may times its normal size,
foliage is variously dwarfed and often folded or pleated, and flowering
stems are short, clubby and malformed. Underground, the roots may
persist only near the newer growth. Sometimes an entrie clump will be
affected but usually only a portion is involved. The unaffected portion
may grow and produce normal foliage and flowers the following year.
Pineappling has been reported from most areas of the US, but complaints
are much more prevalent in the warmer southern areas.
No control is known.
