Hi Zelma,

There is lots in the archives about plant tags. The gist of what I remember is
that the best marker was a "paint marker" most often found at WalMart. I have
copied one of the posts below for you. There are lots of others in the archives.

The other highly regarded process is to use one of those new Brother (I think)
label makers with the adhesive back. Perhaps some of the iris-l folk that are
using them will chime in.

Did someone say markers? In digging several hundred iris to take to our plant
sale in recent years I have found that by using paint markers (buy them at
Walmart,
Kmart, or any department store; they look like a pen put write with paint
instead of
ink) I can safely soak my dug iris in a bleach solution, dip in Terraclor,
plant them
and still be able to read the name written on the iris till the plant looses
the leaf.
I also use the paint markers to mark my plant tags with...after 2 years they
are still
as clear as when first written. I have tried Testor brand paint markers found
right
next to the models in the toy department...they work great, but I prefer a
finer point.
The paint marker I like the best is sold at Walmart in the craft department
and is a
_Speedball Painters Opaque Paint Marker_...has a nice fine point and many
colors to
choose from!!!
