I wouldn't be happy about someone helping themselves to the old iris in the
barnlot (clearly visible from the road). If someone should ask, certainly
they would get permission to have some. Taking some without permission,
however, still wouldn't compare to the lowlifes who shot all my geese
except one poor goose in the pond located by the barnlot. I sympathize
with the impulse to gather a plant, but be sure never to take it all. I
would have been unhappy indeed if someone had taken the whole clump before
I had a chance to remove some to the yard. It defines what I think of when
I think 'iris' and tho it has a tendency to get frozen and is not always a
prolific bloomer, it belongs in my personal heritage along with the
homeplace. While I would like to know its name (if it has one), unnamed or
not it has sentimental value for my family.
On the other hand, those irises growing in the road ditch by the cemetary
may need rescuing........so-o-o-o. Be sure not to take everything and ask
permission if it's at all possible. Most folks would gladly share, I
think.

Zone 7 and if Dennis wants some of this iris toward planting time in his
area, he's welcome and I'll send some rhizomes
