We use the rose markers and have in the past ordered the vinyl peel-off
adhesive markers made by Garden Fonts (Dept.l, 1007 Province Rd.,
Barnstead, NH 03218) This is a source that we found in the AIS Bulletin
Commercial Directory some years ago and we have been well pleased. I don't
recall the price...since I haven't ordered in over a year. Like everything
else, it has gone up, but I seem to recall somewhere in the neighborhood of
30 cents ea. We have never found one that peeled off and they always are
very readable. We send our list of everything we want on the label (Name,
hybridizer, year, awards) and they promptly send the finished accurate
labels. You might inquire as to the price if you're interested. It's not
so expensive if you only have a few irises. We push the prongs of the
labels into the ground very near the rhizomes, leaving only about 3"
showing. They're mostly concealed by the iris foliage but easily read by
pulling back the foliage during the off-bloom season when I can't remember
which is where. We, too, prefer a less obtrusive system and are thinking
about that underground method. Ann Henson Zone 5/6 S. IL
