Today I spent some time cutting rotting fans out of my irises. As all you
Americans east of the Rocky Mountains remember, several weeks ago we had
a horrible week-long freeze. And that really did a number on my irises.
The center leaves in the fans rotted away and the rot travelled down to
the rhyzome so I had to cut them out.
On some fans, the rot had not travelled down very far. Is there a chance
that those fans could still bloom this year???
I applied bleach to all the fresh cut rhyzomes.
