On a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, after tending the 70-80 bloomstalks I have
popping their little heads up above the fans (yes, I know I am being
reeeeeeealy obnoxious here) Joanne and I drove over to the coast to visit
Marilyn Harlow and Bill Maryott at their new digs in (near) Santa Cruz.
What a wonderful new place they have. They are situated in a valley several
miles from the coast along a riparian zone that is protected by the state for
salmon runs. We got a walking tour of the fields (things are still a bit wet)
and the whole layout. It use to be an apple orchard, They took out about 400
old apple trees, and the new field was laser graded and planted last fall. He
has 3 miles (yes, miles) of iris rows. With his new tractor, several new barns
and sheds, Bill is *READY TO SHIP* as soon as the right time rolls around.
I got to look at the rough of his catalog (went to the printers Friday) and I
think you all will enjoy it immensely. So be sure to allocate some of your
iris funds to a Maryott order (I know, I know, blatent endorsement - unpaid advertisement!!)
