Deciduous irises

I believe that Jeff is correct in that different deciduous behaviour is
a response to differing climatic conditions. My plants rarely show it,
as is seen in my recent list, probably because I have continuous snow
cover throughout the winter.

The only real exception is my reichenbachii, which lost is leaves fairly
early in autumn, well before winter. As the SDB LIVE JAZZ (Lankow, 86)
behaves in a similar way, do we know the species that are the ancestors
of this cultivar?

The species that were used to breed present day irises came from more
than one stock, from different locations, climates and genetic
backgrounds. Thus, it would not be unreasonable to find that such a
deciduous behaviour was associated with only some lines of the species.

Ian, in Ottawa where we have a warm, spring day.
