In "Quick Fixes" you will find a photo of 'Pumila Atroviolacea' which may
well be what you are trying to identify.
The country you describe sounds like home, I am from North Dakota
originally and have family in North Dakota, Minnesota and scattered across
the Canadian Provinces.
