Dear Anner,
"About "flags": Yes, now we tend to use this term for beardless irises, if at
all, but in the past bearded irises were also called "flags." "
Here in rural Arkansas (both in the north where I was born and central
where I live now) TB's are still called "flags". Your comment is the first
time that I have heard this term applied to beardless. Ain't regional
language fun?
"If you want to buy some ATROVIOLACEA, send me a little note to my private
mailbox at----> HIPSource@aol.com<---- and I'll glady refer you to a
commercial nursery."
Though I'm not a member of HIPS, I know that I should be. The old fashioned
iris has a particular appeal to me. How well would you think that
ATROVIOLACEA would do down here? I would be interested in a source.
Suggestions for other "tough as nails" old-fashioned iris would also be
welcome, particularly if scented.
I currently have a large stand of Iris pallidia that I'm very fond of.
Thanks in advance. I will be a bit slow to respond as we are shortly
leaving for the UK and will be gone for a fortnight.
