LOUISIANAS. They love it there, and sell like hotcakes at the Houston Bulb
Mart, which is sponsored each autumn by the Houston Garden Council folks.
Spurias probably OK too. Medians and dwarfs, out of the question (not cold
enough). TB's doubtful -- usually rot before they can bloom. Too much
moisture. HOWEVER, I saw a "modern" TB iris (DEFINITELY NOT ELEANOR
ROOSEVELT) alive and BLOOMING at the SLI convention in Lafayette, LA a
couple of Aprils ago. Helen Calhoun, daylily grower in Mansfield, LA (about
halfway between Shreveport and Natchitoches, headed south on I-49 for the
swampland) had an impressive TB collection of a couple of dozen or so in
full bloom one year (and yes, Victoria Falls down, even in the Deep South).
TB's probably only as far south as Huntsville, TX, if that far.
If I'm wrong, I'd love to hear about it. Remember, for years, folks thought
those "swamp iris" wouldn't grow "north of Baton Rouge"!!
