I am in zone 3 and am growing Spurias rather successfully--I purchase them
from a cold climate grower--usually Dave Niswonger in Missouri--and mulch
them the first winter--as suggested by Dave--I try to cut back on the water
after they bloom, but other than that, do nothing special to them--the
clump takes a year or two longer to reach a good clump size, so think that
they are not multiplying as fast as if they were in a warmer climate--
I have four of Dave's own--plus several from other hybridizers-which were
purchased from Dave--and so far have not lost any of the ones from him--the
only ones I have lost are from the growers in the warm areas--
here we are supposedly in zone 3, but I usually buy plants that are for
zone 2 if I really want them to survive--
Hope this info helps--
Carryl in western Montana--finally home and wondering where the snow is??
