I've been told that they must go thru a cold period first --- and then bring
them indoors under a very bright light.  Last year we had some irises in a
Home & Garden Show  -- just the plant (which was maybe "pregnant" and the
lights for the booth  were not turned off from one weekend to the other and by
the 2nd weekend the stalks were up and the buds nearly ready to bloom.  These
