Lest anyone think our local club is filled with one-dimensional
philistines who grow only TB, I must respond to this comment.

Our club is filled with people who grow a great diversity of irises. Many
of our members grow other bearded classes, from MDB all the way up to
BB. Rebloomers, broken color, spaceagers and historics are well represented
in the gardens of our members. Many siberians and JI can be found, as well as
species irises. Spurias, LA and PCN are there as well, albeit not with the frequency
one finds in the bearded and more common beardless types. Hybridizers in our
club over the years have introduced TB, TB, RE, MDB, SDB, ( one the most recent Cook-
Douglas Medal winner) MTBs (one a Dykes Medal runner-up for three years), and even
recently a siberian iris. We also have 8 AIS judges in our midst who are familiar with
all iris classes. There are at least 3 members who grow or have grown arilbreds. I
grant the point that most are unfamiliar with aril/arilbreds because of cultural difficulties
in our climate as well as the generally lower distribution and publicity in the area.
