Re: OT-CHAT-TBIS-Quibbling and Quarreling

Anner and other iristalkers, I am really very sorry that I asked about the
status of the TBIS at all; it was not my intention to upset anyone. I was
only looking for information from someone who might know. I was not
gossiping when I said that I had information from someone that had
questions about the welfare of AIS where the TBIS is concerned. It is only
that the person who talked to me about it is a highly respected irisarian
whose opinion I value. They did not draw any definite conclusions ill or
good; that is why I was seeking further information. Anner, you are quite
correct; I would not support an organization I did not agree with. As far
as the TBIS goes, it would seem to me that it would best be another
section. I understand that there are people around the world who belong to
both the Aril and Louisiana societies that have no interest in other types
of iris, and this is why they are societies and not sections. As I
understand it, the only difference between societies and sections is that
to be a member of a society, one is not obligated to belong to the AIS.
Section membership is available only after obtaining a membership in the
AIS. I could therefore see why the AIS would prefer sections...it exposes
people to a bigger variety of iris. I also understand that many people
that belong to one of the societies live in climates where other types of
iris grow poorly or not at all. Surely, that would not be the case with
the TBIS. I have read the minutes in the AIS bulletin on the TBIS with
interest. The AIS officials in charge of these matters have stated that
they would be happy to have the TBIS as a section, with little further
discussion needed. I guess there is a reason why the TBIS wants society
status and not section status; but I wouldn't know why. I must say that
the people involved with the TBIS seem completely beyond reproach to me.
If the TBIS would just say why they want society status instead of section
status, perhaps this could all be cleared up very quickly. Is there anyone
in the TBIS that could explain why this is so? That was really my original
reason for inquiring about the TBIS. I must have worded it poorly, as I
did NOT want to cause any ill feelings, but just wanted to clear up the
matter in my mind. I would still like to have the answer to this one, if
it could be had without any hard feelings.
