Very true, but what is not permitted to win are the species iris.

Equally "Joseph's Coat" is not eligible as it was not properly
introduced and no one knows what it really is anyway.  Grows like a weed
here.

The historicals can be 'Queen of the Show', but if two stalks are equal
in all other aspects, the more modern cultivar will be chosen (as per my
brand new AIS Judges' Handbook).  It strikes me that the old one said
the same thing, but that might be judges' training.
