Adding to Jeff Walters post, On page 193 of the new Judges Handbook, it
states: "For species, a validly published binomial is considered the
equivalent of a registered name."......."All horticultural exhibits should be
identified as fully as possible by giving either the registered cultivar name
or the species binomial;"
This would seem to indicate that species are legitimate entries and eligible
for the Best Specimen Award.
