It helps to think of an opening flower as a process -- not an event. The
colors are most intense as it opens, but change with time. The form is
best at its fullest expansion, before it succumbs to the sun, wind, and --
sometimes -- rain. This is the reason we need to GROW iris to judge them.
A picture merely records a moment in time.
