Speaker at CVIS mtg

From: CMarti8855@aol.com

Hi everyone,
I finally had a chance to read all the weekend postings last night, and I
wanted to add my two cents to Mike Lowe's glowing comments about Bill Shear's
wonderful discussion of "Species Iris" at our Saturday meeting.
Today's buzz words in landscape design is progression of bloom. Bill's well
paced presentation made a convincing case for species iris fulfilling this
goal. Monoculturing is never a good idea particularly from a pest point of
view, but Bill deftly pointed out the merits of species iris for the
exasperating shade applications in the landscape. He carefully and thoroughly
outlined the pros and cons of each selection amd their accompanying cultural
requirements frequently inviting comments from the floor. Bill repeatedly
emphasized the importance of providing the correct micro environment for each
iris. It is a crucial piece of cultural practice often overlooked or minimized
in today's garden planning and it was refreshing to hear it stressed to our
members. Even though it was a great afternoon to be in the garden, I was glad
to meet Bill and personally thank him for his contributions to my iris
knowledge. If any of you are looking for a good reason to join AIS, here is a
great perk. Bill's presentation was five star. Thanks Bill for coming despite
a hectic weekend schedule. We salute you and wish you continued success with
the Gardener's Iris Book.
Sincerely,
Mike Lockatell

PS Bill, I wish you had kept the Chevy truck.
