Re: Dried flowers

Cindy and all who were interested in drying iris,
I thought I would describe what I made to finished drying them after I took
them out of the silica sand.
I made a drying 'rack' out of two empty, 46 oz, tomatoe juice cans and a 20
inch wooden dowel ( that I glued to the cans) I made the tubular support
out of
paper plates. I cut strips about 1 inch wider than the length of the standards
and
glued them together to be just a little larger around than the falls. I
measured all
of it while I had the fresh flower before drying it. I also glued a 1-2 inch
(depending
on the size of the falls) band around the edge of the tube. It looked like an
opened end, top hat when I was finished. I would wire the dried flower to the
wooden dowel so it could hang down with the standards in the tube and the
falls resting on the
band.
Make a number of these before you dry the flowers.
Also, when I glued the dried flowers to stems, I only did one per stem, if it
was to go in an arrangement. More than one flower, on the stem , would tend to
tear up one of them when I was trying to work them in with other flowers. So
it was safer to work with just one flower at a time. If you have any
questions, you can email me off line.
