Someone was talking about the AIS Annual Meeting, and said "JIJ's E-Mail
Hullabaloo"
I would appresiate finding out more about this--I was off I-t for a while
and am trying to get caught up with all that was on while I was
gone--Archives are great--but do not cover everything.
Re: VF--here it not only falls but dies on a yearly basis--in about 10
gardens in our valley, with different climes--VF does well in only
one--(not mine)--Honky TB does wonderfully for me, and 3 miles away at the
club garden it does nothing--I agree, Jesse's Song should be voted the
'Best of the last half of the Century"--grows like a weed here and has to
have some removed from the original clump every year--
Our club maintains a garden--and if any Iris will survive there it should
survive anywhere--we have a complete 'Dykes Row' and every year have to
replace several--pinks do not survive long here--
Best IB--Rare Edition--another 'grows like a weed' here--
Acoma is yucky here, as is Silverado--but I have seen these in other areas
of the country and they look great!! My husbands favorite--Supreme
Sultan--also grows like a weed here-- when I vote my Judge's Ballot, I
vote for the one which I think does the best --and which I have seen here,
at convention, in many gardens in Oregon and Calif--not always my favorite
color and not always a TB-- One of the reasons for going to convention in
different areas of the country is to see how the Iris do in different
areas--
since I am on a side-hill and the wind comes up the valley and gets to
me--I now grow many smaller bearded ones--especially MTB--which do well
here--and I have tried many rebloomers--figured the medians would rebloom
here because they bloom earlier--not so--only a few occasionally--but still
get them--always hoping--
My Iris are about 3" tall now, so tis nice to read bloom reports--just
think--I will get to see all of them in OKC, then come home to a complete
bloom season--while many who have blooms now will only come home to green
leaves--there are some advantages to a later bloom season!! Carryl in
western Montana--going into another cold spell
