Re: SPEC: Iris verna

From: Bill Shear <BILLS@hsc.edu>

Iris verna has been very successful in my garden among azaleas under pines.
It seems to prefer a rather sandy, acid soil with a heavy mulch of pine
needles. Plants set out at the same time in deciduous woods failed.
However, the only time I have seen this plant in the wild (in West
Virginia), it was growing in a mixed deciduous forest at the edge of a
clearing.

My plants came from Gardens of the Blue Ridge, Spruce Pine, NC. At one
time they supplied huge clumps and divisions of native plants at very low
prices. Haven't ordered from them in many years.
