Lloyd wrote an aricle, complete with drawing, on this subject, oh, somewhere
around 10 years ago, in the Recorder. Apparently the 'hook' is from the
plyable young fan forming around the stalk. Still, Lloyd can describe it
better.
I've searched for 'hooks' since the article. Of course, it doesn't tell you
if there is a hard freeze coming to knock the stalk out! One day!
Betty in Bowling Green, KY where lots of seedlings that I thought had been
transplanted too late have 'hooks.'
