The rain yesterday caused one of my Inland Passage
Iris bloomstalks to fall over. This 2 inch
diameter stalk with 2 branches had
8 spent blooms, 6 open blooms and 7 buds showing
color. The bloomstalk was 43 inches from
rhizome to the tip of the top bloom.
That may be unremarkable to some of you but being
fairly new to Iris it amazed me.
This has been an impressive year here for
Tall-bearded
Iris with outstanding foliage. Leaves are
averaging 30 inches long and over 3 inches wide.
If leaf spot doesn't get too bad they will really
make a nice vertical accent in the borders this
summer.
Also currently blooming are Leda's Lover, Fortune
Teller,
Edith Wolford, Superstition, Larry Gaulter, Red
at Night,
Fair Dinkum, Earl of Essex, Role Model, Tommorrow
May
Rain, Congradulations, Jennifer Rebecca, Coral
Chalice,
Total Recall, Autumn Circus, Champagne Elegance,
Clarence,
Spin Doctor, Elizabeth Ann Thomas, Jesse's Song,
Eagle's Flight,
and Graphic Arts.
I can see I am going to have to diversify a bit in
colors on this year's orders. But even with so
many that resemble one another it is interesting
to see the differences.
