SHOW: Don't skip a year & a question

Evening...

Last year nearly none of the Oklahoma groups held iris shows due to OKC
hosting the National Convention. Daylily groups held few or no shows either
for the same reason. There are lessons to be learned here!

First: If you had any blank show tags left over, rubber-banded and ready to
go --- the rubber bands have ALL rotted and need to all be replaced...

Second: As evidenced today by my venturing up to enter the Edmond Show, the
big 21st annual Edmond Arts Festival that always runs concurrently with the
Edmond Iris Show has expanded. They were already shutting down at least 6
square city blocks for the event. Apparently with no Edmond show (or anyone
using the Community Center) last year they have overtaken another main street
which nearly prohibits traffic or cars of any sort anywhere near the
Community Center, let alone into their parking lot. 3 streets that surround
the Community Center are completely shut down. There is now but one and only
one way in whatsoever. Upon leaving you can snake your way down 4 blocks of
alleyways to leave, but getting there is a real problem. I just about gave
up my plight tonight, in fact... Good thing I didn't wait until tomorrow
morning to go up with a car load of flopping irises.

The Edmond Iris folks are thinking they may need to change weekends in the
future to avoid the congestion. I hope I can get in and out of there early
enough tomorrow (festival doesn't open til about 10) to avoid the worst part
of the problem.

Third: All the OKC shows (4 iris shows and a daylily show) have lost a whole
hour. The Garden Exhibition center where all the garden clubs do everything
no longer allows the shows to be open until 5pm. So far, I have found no
energy to enter any of those shows considering they are only open one day to
the public from 1pm to 4pm. It's just too much work for a 3 hour show. Not
to mention, I really kinda liked seeing all the flowers in the garden last
year for the first time ever. Usually I cut everything and take them to
anywhere from 8 to 10 shows which manages to keep the iris garden pretty well
bare. Even considering the May 3rd tornado left a lot of mine blown to
smithereens and leaning like the tower of pizza, it was nice to see so much
bloom...

I know Dallas hosted an iris show this year in addition to hosting the
National and I think it is an extremely wise idea. I would not advocate
skipping entire years of having shows. You put things away for a year and
they're pretty easy to find again this time next year... No so after two
years.... I'm still hunting the grooming box, foam rubber stoppers, and
median sized carrying bucket complete with spacers.
Not to mention, as old as so many of the club members are, you can handle
losing a few over a year, but two years can leave big gaps in your entrants,
workers, etc.

Anyone close enough to care: The Edmond Show is open for entries tomorrow
(Saturday May 6th) from 7am to 10am... Show is open to the public from 12:30
to 5pm. The Oklahoma Iris Society Show in OKC is taking place Sunday but is
only open to the public from 1pm to 4pm.

And one question... Does ANYBODY know the absolute correct spelling for
Delight or Deelight or Deelite as in BUMBLEBEE ????? You see it spelled so
many different ways, I no longer remember the real spelling...

Thanks... Kath in OKC alias: Kathy Poore AIS Region 22 USDA Zone 7
