Sounds like I don't have scorch here, or at least not often enough to
have noticed. Nothing that looks like ironed leaves, or maybe I don't
know quite what you are describing - are these the leaves that turn
yellowish and reddish brown as they die? Does scorch always get into
the rhizome or does it sometimes stop after only affecting the outer
leaves? I've seen the reddish brown outer leaves on cultivars when
we've had excessive rain and cold/warm cycles, but that is usually while
they are blooming.

This green ick that I'm describing doesn't stink like soft rot. It
smells bad, but only if you hold it pretty close. Soft rot is so strong
I would gag if I held it that close to my nose. I do get soft rot
occasionally, for sure, but maybe it comes in different strains, and
some smell worse than others? I've had soft rot a few times where you
could smell it a couple of rows away, and that was with only a few
rhizomes/fans affected.

Also, this green ick starts earlier than I think of for soft rot - in
between the rollercoaster freezes in early spring. Maybe it's chilled
soft rot so it doesn't smell as bad? <g> It hasn't been hot enough for
what I think of as soft rot till this week (80s). Can you (er, the
irises, that is) get soft rot while the high temps are in the 60s and
low 70s?

(ps - my allergies tend to make me swell up, choke/gag/hack, get dizzy
and disoriented with overwhelming fatigue rather than congestion. They
are getting better - more often in the normal realm of runny nose and
itchy eyes this year, thanks to a better doctor than the last one)
