All my iris bulbs have come from Alan McMurtrie's collection in Toronto
- actually Mississauga.
In my view, Florida would be unsuitable for this species as it is
normally grown in dry semi-desert, well drained condition and must not
have any moisture in the three months of summer. One day's summer rain
in Florida would equal a year's rain in its natural habitat! The only
solution would be to grow it in sand or scree mix and cover the bed with
glass much of the year. Even that might be unsuccessful as the humidity
would still moisten the growing area and cause rot. Colorado, New
Mexico, California.....are a more suitable climates. These irises come
from the area of the southern USSR.
