Thank you Mark, and the others who responded to me, for being so
understanding as this is my first time in an email group.

As I said in my earlier letter, I am trying to find put what kind of irises
I inherited with my new house and how should I care for them, what plants
are good to plant with them and if I may put mulch on top of them. On the
advice of my new friends, here aer some specs:

I live in Kansas City, KS and I have no idea what my zone is. My irises are
a little over 2 feet tall and the ones that have bloomed have produced 4 - 5
yellow flowers. The one I am hlding now has three "branches" and 2 of the
branches have 2 blooms together, sort of like twins. When teh second flower
blooms the stalks plop onto the ground. It doesn't look very pretty. Can I
do anything about it?

The flowers have 3 petals down and 3 petals curling up. On the petals that
point down, dark brown stripes are present near the center and fade out near
the end. in the center hiding under a very small petal are fuzzy, yellow
caterpiller looking things (stamen or pistol?)

The scent is what I like most about irises very strong and heady. Although,
this one seems to have lost it's scent. Could that be because it is old?

In general, when should I cut the stalks to keep the plant happy? And where
should I cut it- high near the blooms or low near the leaves?
