This is a common problem when citing a URL at the end of a sentence.
It is no doubt:
http://www.bigfoot.com/~signa
NO period on the end. The tilde means "home of the user" so if signa@
bigfoot.com were a valid email address, www.bigfoot.com/~signa
(adding the www. to the front of the domain name and appending a /
(for directory or folder), then appending ~signa (~ followed by
the email user name signa) would be a likely spot to look
for that user's web site. Just a bit of FYI... URLs almost
NEVER end in a period.
