For a garden plant, it seems to me the ability to increase and
produce multiple flower stalks is more valuable than simple bud
count. Of course, I guess in a perfect world a plant would do
both. But for me, those rhizomes that manage to increase and
reach the maturity to produce a good number of stalks are nicer
than a slow increaser with a single wonderful stalk. Also, in our
often dry heat during bloom season, only the first 4-7 buds look
good. When they get too many buds, the last ones often simply
dry up or if they do manage to open are pretty sad. If the number
of blooms is dependent on separate stalks, then all the blooms
usually are fine.
