Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the group. My name is Patti. I grew up in New Jersey.
I married an Englishman 2 years ago and moved to London, bringing
along my 10 yr old daughter from my previous marriage.
Her middle name is Iris as it's always been my fav flower and for me
is a symbol of beauty.
There are lots of iris all around where we live here and in the
common gardens behind our house. However we cannot plant anything in
the gardens ourselves.
We have a balcony that gets a good amount of sun and my daughter has
been begging me to try and grow our own iris. I explained to her that
most iris grow too large for us to keep, so we've been searching the
garden shops for a dwarf variety. We finally found some.
Planted several in a large pot and they were doing pretty well
until... the attack!
Squirrels. BIG squirrels.
My daughter was not a happy camper to say the least.
I salvaged what I could, and decided to try... indoor iris!
I am happy to report that so far, they are growing...and fast!
Several phone calls to Mom back in Jersey have reassured me that we
are not going to wake up one morning to something out of a portrait
from Night Gallery growing in the livingroom.
Not quite sure yet what my Englishman thinks of our new "friends".
Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me and if anyone has any
helpful tips or suggestions I'd be very happy to hear them.
Cheers
Patti
