Hey Walta....
First of all, there's some pretty cool foliage out there (Canadian
Streaker... Zebra's Blush), but if you want to grow irises for the flowers as
well as the foliage, use this simple method.
The first year of no bloom, give them a stern look
Second year, a reprimand is indicated
The third year, walk VERY close to the offending foliage plant and remark how
nice a ROSE will look in that spot. Or, the arch-enemy DAYLILY. This
generally works.
If that fails, dig the damn thing up and give it to a non-gardener. Plant
will bloom its fool head off for sure forever after.
I waited SIX YEARS for one iris to bloom, KAHILI (something like that). When
it did, I was so profoundly disappointed, I flung it into the compost pile.
Figger it didn't bloom as a means of preservation.
