TB: Foliage only iris
The following list is of first year irises that did not bloom for me or
bloomed poorly:
Orange Show
Rotted over winter.
Starship Enterprise
There are three small increases, and it did not bloom.
World Class
Excellent growth with four uncreases, but no bloom.
Ruban Bleu
There are two small increases, one meduim increase, and no bloom.
Overjoyed
There are five tremendous increases, and it bloomed late (now) but
bloomstalk was stunted with the heat, only three buds bloomed and the others
all dried up or did not develop.
Skywalker
There are four increases, but leaves are thin and not as tall, and are
currently getting sun-scorched and fading. Bloomed late (now) and bloomstalk
was stunted with the heat, only three buds bloomed and the others never
developed. The blooms were underdeveloped too, with the standards being
short.
Fogbound
There are five small increases, the leaves are thin and not as tall. Bloomed
late and bloomstalk was stunted with the heat, only three buds bloomed and
the others never developed. The flowers were small and very pale in
comparison to pictures.
Merlot
This cv was advertised as vigorous, but with Mulberry Punch as one of its
parents, I had my suspicions. MP does grow well in our climate. Merlot has
two very large increases, but did not bloom.
Celebration Song
This is praised all over for its spectacular bloom and growth, but it did
not bloom. There are however, five very large increases, foliage is dense
and healthy.
April in Paris
There are three small increases, and it bloomed late (now). The bloomstalk
was stunted and only two blooms. The rest of the buds dried up with the
heat. The stalk was pencil thin. The flower was pale pink and looked like
BE MINE.
Immortality
Has two medium sized increases and a very stunted bloomstalk. Only one bud
developed normally. The rest were pulled off.
Victoria Falls
Small rhizome planted in gravel area of yard with full sun, no soil
ammendments, scarce spuratic watering. Growth looks good and healthy, one
increase, no bloom.
Good Show

Prince Thou Art (AB)
Many many increases, no bloom.
Iris Pallida Argentia Variagata
Rhizomes planted last fall (5 of them) were fingernail sized tiny, growth is
excellent, one increase on one already. No bloom of course. Leaves are
healthy and strong.
Hopefully these do better the second year. So much for first year rhizomes.
