As the season has progressed, the weather has turned hot, dry, humid and
windy, followed by cool, dry, low humidity and windy. Few of my later
crosses seem to have been successful. I was trying to spit/drool on the
stigmatic lip per list suggestions earlier, but wasn't very successful.
What's the technique here? I felt a bit like the Chinese girl in the
Disney cartoon who was trying to spit like a man to keep her disguise.
I am definitely not skilled enough to spit directly on the flower!
Spitting on my fingers and trying to apply a little but not a lot was
probably entertaining to the dog and cat, but wasn't very helpful in
getting the pollen to stick.
