This spring I purchased Iris virginica "purple-violet" and it's sending up
a bloom stalk. I was impressed with how much the rhizome resembled a
Lousiana Iris... all except for the color (orange instead of red).
When I look through my SIGNA books it seems other than LITTLE CAILLET, the
only thing that virginicas have been crossed with is versicolor. Anyone
know if they've been attempted with dip-LAs? Does the extreme chromosome
difference make such a cross impossible?
