I don't know how Saltillo is pronounced in TN, but it is
pronounced sal TILL' uh in MS. This is, of course, quite different
from the Spanish saw TI' yo. During the Mescan Wah, it seems
there were a number of suthrners fighting for the cause. They were
esctatic over the exotic sounding place names they found and
where they fought. So much so, the returning soldiers wanted to
name new communities for these faraway places. The 'best'
corrupted Spanish pronounciation in MS is not Saltillo but Jay
Center for Jacinto! Jacinto is mispronounced in TX also, but the
'best' one there is My Hair for the city of Mexia, TX. If these
soldiers just had a tape recorder!
