Never said Virginians were blameless, nor ever intended to suggest any such
thing, which would have been very silly.
There are also some local names from other languages that get mispronounced
quite frequently. The most notorious is the highway known as the Powhite
Parkway. Properly pronounced POW-HITE, often pronounced PO-WHITE. It is a
Native American name. All of which reminds one of the password test that was
used on the Virginia front during the Civil War (often pronounced Late
Unpleasantness) to determine if an unrecognized person who was taken was of
the Confederacy or actually a Union scout/spy. The person was asked to
pronounce POWHATAN.
Which should not be interpreted as opening a thread on politics or history.
