This is a very important point that can hardly be too strongly emphasized.
Posting a list of the best performing cultivars in the Northwest is not
necessarily a recommendation of their
durability in the Southeast, for example. Even locally, one iris grower
will praise the performance of a cultivar that another will dismiss as the
epitome of feebleness.
That much said, there do seem to be some cultivars that perform well in a
wide range of environments, but even so, not everywhere for everyone.

All of the above that I have grown, namely Dusky Challenger, Vanity,
Stairway To Heaven, Celebration Song, Cherry Smoke, Vigilante, Lacy
Snowflake, Victoria Falls, and Immortality, have done well here, too
(though Immortality has been a rather shy bloomer). This is not to say that
they are necessarily the very best performing irises for me, but they are
hardy, reliable, and durable.
