Why scatter salt around, which is probably not going to be too agreeable to
your plants, when a little bit of granular ammonium sulfate will dessicate
them (the slugs) in no time? If you feel that ammonium sulfate would give
your irises a nitrogen overdose, any other granular fertilizer would
probably work as well.
