Interesting! What's the parentage?
Walter, a question for you: what can you tell me about the
inheritance of bud-count and branching. Your comment recently about
Romantic Evening having three-in-a-socket sent me out to do some
close looking. What a welcome characteristic! I've seen multiple
buds in sockets on a too-small number of moderns over
the years. Breeding for this would be an asset--is it dominant?
recessive? a combination of factors? It would help if we knew.
Likewise, branching. Besides the contribution made by nutrition and
energy available to a plant, I wonder how the style, count and
placement of branches and side-spurs are determined. I wish more
things had Blue Rhythm (or Winter Olympics, or Emperor's Concerto)
branching. Breeding good-branching to good-branching doesn't always
make for good branching. Something gets lost a lot of the time.
I suspect you've put some thought into these questions judging by
some comments you've made in various posts. I'm interested in
your conclusions.
